Daniel Webster Elementary School with Police Officer

There’s always a buzz of activity at Daniel Webster Elementary School! Recent activities include:

  • On March 22, fourth- and fifth-graders participating in the Kaleidoscope program received a visit from the New Rochelle Police Department as part of students’ unit on forensic science. The visit included a presentation on forensic science from the criminal investigations unit. Detective Sgt. Dwayne Jones, Detective Steven Geertgens, and Police Officer Nicole DeCarlo shared their expertise with the students and answered questions. Additionally, the students were treated to a demonstration by the canine (K-9) unit. Police Officer Gary Moss and his dog Jodie, with the help of Police Officer Michael Nader, impressed the students with their skills. The visit was both educational and fun.
  • A Coffee with the Principal was held on March 24. Literacy Coach Jennifer Meyer and Principal Melissa Passarelli facilitated a discussion around Webster's philosophy on literacy instruction, what drives our instruction, and how we use data to inform teaching and learning.
  • Students are participating in the PTA-sponsored Readathon, challenging themselves to read each day and share their favorite books with classmates and friends. Through dress-up on March 25, students brought their favorite book characters to life in the halls of the school.
  • Webster students began a focus on health and wellness March 28. Students are invited to take the Healthy Snack Challenge for two weeks, eating fruits and vegetables each day, and then logging what they eat.
