African American Studies classes recently prepared a Black Excellence exhibit, currently located in the House 2 stacks. Students were asked by teachers Laurie Collins-Thomas and Alprentice McCutchen to select a Black American who has significant accomplishments in fields including Politics, Theater, Arts, Health Fields, Engineering, Social Sciences, Education, Business, and Technology.

The assignment was to create a poster featuring general information and photos. Each student then created a QR code to connect those visiting the exhibit to videos, speeches, slides, and other materials designed to provide greater insight into the accomplishments of the featured individual.

Meanwhile, the Black Culture Club and Collins-Thomas’ African American Studies Class have designed a bulletin board outside room 313 that reflects the importance of the country’s historically Black colleges and universities and the contributions of their alumni.

The Business Department also is celebrating Black History Month, providing an opportunity for students to conduct research, collaborate with peers, and reflect on the experiences of African American pioneers, inventors, and entrepreneurs who paved the path for others.

Students in every Business Education class are creating informative and inspiring presentations about African Americans who have made significant accomplishments in areas including the American legal system, social media, philanthropy, entertainment, and Fortune 500 firms.
